In the early evening of Tuesday, May 15, 2018, an EF1 tornado ripped a wide path through northern Hamden.  The tornado devastated Sleeping Giant State Park, uprooting thousands of trees along the entire length of the park on both sides of the mountain.  Directly across the street from the park, fallen trees nearly destroyed the Jonathan Dickerman House and the Talmadge Cider Mill Barn.

Almost immediately the Hamden Historical Society began to assess the damage to the house and cider mill barn, removing the trees and other debris from the site.  Within weeks, the immense task of restoring both buildings began under the direction and hard work of master carpenter Bob Zoni.

The photos below attest to the devastation and the outstanding craftsmanship that brought both buildings back to their original condition.

The Hamden Historical Society is planning a Grand Reopening of The Jonathan Dickerman House and the Talmadge Cider Mill Barn for Sunday, August 29th.  Further details to be announced soon.
